Topic: Build 1932.768 Crash/Freezing

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi all, After updating to The latest build (1932.768) last night it began to crash when manually adding tracks to the side list, this happens with or without controller (Numark Mixtrack Quad). It so far has crashed a total of 11 times while doing this, of course I could just not use the side list feature but........
Here is the crash report:

Intel core i3-2350M CPU@2.30GHz
Music is on external USB 3.0 1TB Toshiba HDD with (Approximately) 56500 tracks, no video, no karaoke.
I also used the VDJ Optimization bat file
Is that enough info?

After re installing VDJ8 (after backing up settings etc) and making sure all 50'000 + tracks have been scanned - I tried manually adding to sidelist once again, after adding 32 tracks it froze temporarily then went back to working normally after around 7 seconds, I think it may have been because the tracks were being accessed after going through 8 subfolders ie Favourites/MUSIC1(170 folders)/MUSIC2 which accesses 732 sub folders/90s folder/1995 folder/Grunge folder/MudHoney album/then track. I then did another experiment where I just accessed MUSIC1 folder only and added over 100 tracks as fast as possible which did not slow VDJ8 down at all. Did same experiment again adding tracks to sidelist as fast as possible going through the same 8 sub folders and yes it froze again after only 7 tracks, after a few seconds it returned to normal and I carried on adding tracks at a slower pace through the same 8 sub folders and it still struggled a bit but didn't crash. So I'm guessing VDJ8 doesn't like having to go through more than 5 sub folders to access tracks?, Yes it will do it of course but maybe there's a memory issue there?. Anyway I think I found the issue so I will probably (for example) have a 90's folder with just tracks and no subfolders which VDJ8 only has to access 4 folders. I will tell you my findings later.

Not sure what could cause the slowdown. I recreated the same subfolders, and adding files from within the subfolders was working the same for me.

Just finished a final test, it seems that VDJ8 struggles a little bit if it has to go through more than 5 sub folders on an external drive to load onto the sidelist, if it has to go through 7 sub folders then it really starts to flicker and sometimes hang for a few seconds. What I have done to rectify this is to get rid of unnecessary sub folders, so where originally "Favourites links to >/MUSIC1(170 folders)/MUSIC2 which accesses 732 sub folders/90s folder/1995 folder/Grunge folder/MudHoney album/then track" is about 8 or 9 sub folders, I've now rid of all folders within the 90s folder. So it's now "Favourites/Music1/Music2/90s", Now VDJ8 is much much smoother and no slow down when sidelisting tracks. Job done

Can you check again after a defragmentation of your external HD
