Could it be possible to have V8 read V7 database. I play out with V7 as I don't trust V8 yet but I would like all of the changes that I make (adding virtual folders and songs, changing ratings etc) to copy across to V8 and vice versa. Having to make all the changes twice is ridiculous! Seriously guys whose decision was that.

VDJ 8 does read the VDJ 7 database.
If you rename/delete the database.xml (the VDJ 8 database) then 8 will read the 7 database when it starts up.
Any changes you've made in the 7 database will be read by 8 using the above procedure.
As for "vice versa", I'd suggest doing the work in 7 and updating 8 as above. It's quite usual for updated software to not be "backwards compatible" with the previous version.
