I’m using VDJ 8 with a Hercules 4MX controller. When I turn on the microphone it automatically turns on the microphone talk over and reduces the volume of the main output. How can I adjust or turn off this (talk over) feature.

This is the default behavior for the microphone when no input is selected in VDJ audio configuration menu as it is built in the hardware.
If you select either Microphone or Line Input from the audio menu, VDJ will disable this feature and take control of the microphone input for recording, as explained in the following document:

You should also be able to turn off talkover in the Hercules control panel

This does not disable the Talkover function, but only the attenuation applied when Talkover is enabled.
As mentioned previously, the microphone behavior is really dictated by the audio configuration in VDJ.
