I am using a mac book pro 2010 with maverick. my virtual Dj 7 pro has been working perfectly but when i used virtual Dj 8 the volume keeps fluctuating as i mix videos. is there something i am missing?

just a guess but if its a pumping type effect u hear then its possible your gains are set to high.

Sounds like the gain is too high.
As for V7 stock effects
Backspin
brake
overloop
echo
if you rename the dll file to something else 'backspinOld' it will work in V8 BUT they are not supported and were probably dropped for a good reason (I know overloop conflicts with the new beatgrid, backspin and brake don't automatically switch themselves off and mute the channel when on and ended, echo was just awful)
As for effects you've downloaded previously some work some don't, and they should just be in your effects list
