Topic: Relative pathnames not supported in M3U playlists (Mac)

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi,

I finally got round to downloading VirtualDJ 8 for my MacBook today (Mac OSX v10.9.2).

It looks really smart, and I'm looking forward to trying it out properly. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get one of the more basic functions working - M3U playlists.

The user manual says M3U playlists are readable from anywhere now. So I navigate to my 'Music' folder from the VirtualDJ 8 browser window where there are a number of M3U playlists which I have previously successfully imported into VirtualDJ 7. None of them play. When I drag them into the playlist window, the icons all have a red cross over them. If I right-click the file and select 'Tag Editor' it says 'Error opening file' at the bottom of the tag editor window.

After a bit of experimentation, it appears that VirtualDJ 8 doesn't support relative path names in M3U playlists.

Is this correct?

As it stands, I can open my M3U playlists in any media player application on my MacBook, except VirtualDJ 8.

Is this a bug?

Thanks.

I upgraded to "version 8.0.0 mac build 1828.686" today, and this is still an issue.

Will this problem be addressed in a future build?

So you mean that an entry like this in a m3u file doesn't work:

#EXTINF:181,Loreen - Euphoria - Single Version
New\Loreen - Euphoria - Single Version.mp3

It works fine on my PC version, so if it doesn't work on mac, I guess it must be a bug

Yes, that's correct.

Relative pathnames (both windows '\' and Mac '/') work on the Windows version, but they do not work on a Mac (neither windows '\' or Mac '/').

How do I log this as a bug?
