In VDJ7 and previous when you hit the loop (4, 8 etc) on the fly i.e. if you wanted to loop a section to mix out over it would snap to the nearest beat so if you were not 100& accurate it corrected this for you.
In VDJ8 it appears that if you are a little out it doesn't automoatically snap to the beat?

VirtualDJ was never snapping loops to beat. If smart_loop is enabled then it will create a seamless loop, meaning that it will automatically adjust the length of the loop to the nearest value (1,2,4,8 etc)
The smart_loop action is available in the Deck Options button, next to the Deck control buttons and in the Advanced Loop panels labeled as AUTO

You mean SmartLoop?
Expand the loop box (click the little down arrow on the loop box on the standard skin), and make sure the Auto button is lit.
This way, it'll snap to the beat. Much more sensible.
