VDJ8 on iMac with Mavericks.
When in 2-deck mode on iMac, * to find all songs. Open tag editor which opens in middle of screen. Start using Next button to go through songs. All of a sudden the tag editor window disappears, the screen flashes and the 2-deck screen reloads I guess and my search results have disappeared. Attempting to search again results in an underlying finder window appearing above the VDJ window and when I click on VDJ to bring it to the front again and do a new search, spinning beach ball occurs.

What type of files were they? Audio? Video? What format?

MP3 Audio files. Can provide a screencast if that would be helpful.
