Hi,

I had Version 7.4 installed, then I installed 8 (keeping both versions). If I uninstall version 8, will version 7 be harmed in any way?

During unistall you will get a message about documents and files - just make sure you don't delete them and you should be fine.
 
No, but when the installer asks you if you want to also remove settings and database answer NO
