Hello im looking for a portable outdoor dance floor for an upcomeing gig anyone ever use one perhaps my best bet is to build one.

I would rent one from a party center. The size and weight alone, make it a chore.

I completely agree! Rent one.. Unless you will be having a need for this all the time.. and want to hire a few helping hands to set it up with or for you..
Buying one will require deep pockets as well...

I used to have a small portable homebuilt dance floor in the early eighties, and would be interested in any design ideas,
led certainly has brought down costs and weight.
Certainly adds a point of difference in favour of the operator using one.

A 20x20 dance floor, would have to be broken down to 16 pieces of 5x5 foot sections. You can get about 32 people on there, 2 people x 16. That's not a lot of people. Each section would have to be able to hold at least 400 pounds. What are you going to build this out of?
