If you're applying thermal paste DO NOT add an "ample" amount as stated earlier. It will make any overheating problems worse if you do. Thermal paste is a conductor meant to fill in the microscopic groves and rough parts of the cpu and heatsink so that they have as much surface contact as possible. Adding too much of this conductor is like saying that your metal pot you use to boil water in is a conductor so making it bigger with more metal would make it heat up faster. If ANY thermal paste squeezes out of the sides when you apply the heatsink to the cpu you've put too much on.
