dell xps l502x I7 2720qm or macbookpro 13.3 I7 ? Thanks in advance.

Virtual DJ runs great on my MacBook Pro. I have only had problems with Dell machines.
The one problem with VDJ and a Mac is no visualizer! I hope this is remedied eventually.

I run a Macbook Pro and very happy with it. Mac are great running media. That is why graphics artist, professional video editor, and like use Macs or at the very least a vast majority of them do.

xcakid - I agree with your assessment, which makes it even more annoying that we don't have a visualizer that will run in VDJ for Mac!

A lot of the "MACs are better for visual arts" argument stems from when they were running RISC processors and media encoding strong point of the processor type - but for the last decade MACs have used Intel chips somewhat leveling the playing field with PCs - man=y design programs where originally written for MACs which gave them tremendous market share and they were never ported to PC due to incompatible processors. Those days are over due to the change in CPU type but old loyalties die hard.
The Asus G7x series are pretty good.

and there is an empty spot for a 2nd harddrive so you could add another TB to your disc size very easily
what is your price point, and will you be mixing video?

Here is the 15" version of the ASUS - $1149
http://www.jr.com/asus/pe/ASU_G53SXA1/
CPU - I7 2630QM
RAM- 12GB 1333mhz DDR3
HD - 750GB with 2nd open bay available
Screen - 15.6" 1920x1080
GPU- Nvidia GTX 560M 2GB
Audio - THX certified
The Asus gaming laptops also have really nice heavy duty hinge systems and extremely efficient cooling systems.
The Dell maxes out at 8GB Ram and the GPU is only either the 525m or 540m They also have inferior sound cards. The cooling system is not as robust and they are more expensive. Need any more reasons? Oh and they don't have a 2nd Hard Drive Bay. I would go with the ASUS use the 2nd HD bay to put in a 60GB SSD - you can get them for as little as $60 - to put the OS and programs on, then use the 750GB HD for your music collection. This will make the laptop much more responsive and lower the amount of heat it produces.

The ASUS G-series is one of the few laptops you can buy that has room for 2 hard drives. The one that comes with that model is 750GB. I would leave that one in as a storage drive. I would then purchase a smaller Solid State Drive probably 60GB OCZ SSD+ they are currently going for $60 at my local computer shop. I would then do a clean re-install of Windows on the SSD. That will take up about 25GB. Yo will still have plenty of room to install your other programs on that drive, and keep your music collection on the 750GB drive. This will make it easier to back up your collection and swap out a replacement drive if necessary since the OS will not need to be replaced. Having the OS and program files on an SSD will do several things: It will lower the latency for boot-up, re-start, program opening and other processes. It will make the Computer run cooler since SSDs have no moving parts and create almost no heat. It will also lower the percentage of time that your storage drive is spinning which will also reduce the heat.
Here is a link- btw you could go with a faster SSD but for price performance it is hard to beat these right now if just being used for an OS.

Here is a more performance oriented option for $100

Obviously this is only a useful option if your music collection will fit on a 750GB hard drive :)

First thing I really appreciate your help !
Second : Storage is less important to me
1)Processor
2)chipset
3)memory
4)hd rpm
Of course, reliable manufacturer
Importance in that order.

Running on an ASUS G57JW. Pricey but rock solid, and I was able to fill it up with 3TB of hard drive space for music videos. Also, it has a backlit keyboard, which is very handy for finding the keys while you DJ in a dark room. Runs VDJ doing videos without breaking a sweat.
Posted Sun 09 Oct 11 @ 6:12 pm
i thought backlit keyboards was only on macs... mmmmm im loving this lappy. at that price this lappy isnt pricey, i paid 1100 for mine and that was at a mates rate price

@pseft - no this is not the same as a partition - 2 physically different drives.
Many models from different brands have back-lit keyboards
Here is a page that does a good job of describing the features of the G53SX-A1 And this site will let you customize the heck out of it without too much of a mark-up. The base model is $1179 opposed to $1150 but they give you lots of options to upgrade different parts depending on your budget.

I found out about this line of laptops because my brother has the 17" version. They are rock solid.
@DJ SWID
Pocessor: I7 2630QM - 4core/8thread with 6MB L3 cache and 2nd gen turbo boost - If this processor can't handle what you are doing then you shouldn't be using a laptop - VDJ will not make this CPU break a sweat unless you really screw up your config somehow.
Chipset: not sure which MB this is running because a lot of laptop boards are somewhat proprietary opposed to the more standardized desktop boards but it has HDMI, USB3 SATA 6GB, and a serious THX certified sound card.
RAM: It Can support up to 32GB of Ram in 4 banks it comes with 3x4GB so there is an empty slot and you could go to 16GB for like another $30 but unless you are doing 3D rendering you will never touch that amount of RAM but nice for future software that can take advantage
HD- the 750gb drive that comes installed is 7200rpm - fastest spining drive you will get in a laptop since 10k and 15k drives produce too much heat to be practical - not to mention SSDs are a better choice at the 2.5" form factor
GPU: 560M with 2GB GDDR5 will breeze through Hi-Def video and transitions and can take care of 3D output over the HDMI connection.
@chrisitianwheel
how where you able to put 3TB in it? the largest 2.5"drives I have seen are 1TB and there are only 2 bays available, unless you put a 3rd drive where the DVD bay is?
Also have had nothing but positive experiences with ASUS customer support

@pseft not sure about local availability in Australia but owning a business that ships to customers in Australia regularly I find that it is often cheaper for my customers to buy things from the US and have them shipped than buy them locally - honestly not sure why but it happens that way quite often. Several US websites will have no problem shipping to Australia - as far as the cost it will be determined by which company you choose, The company i linked earlier - xoticPC charges about $150 for international shipping.

my mate is going to LA in a few weeks i will give him cash so he can buy it for me and bring it down thats if he will do it for me.
if he cant my next option is via that web site u just put up about 2 posts ago.
and is there options for that SSD to add with the shipment.
can it support any programs for music making like logic
