Virtual DJ is great for karaoke, except the quality of the key change algorithm leaves an enormous amount to be desired. Standard karaoke machines allow + or - 6 semitones, and the audio quality is impeccable - ie the quality of the sound doesn't degrade - unlike the key changer in VDJ where even a 1 semitone change sounds pretty awful.

Are you using the latest VirtualDJ v7 with Advanced Stretching selected in CONFIG -> Performances
If you are using the default Fast algorithm, then the quality will not be as good.
Also, there is a new advanced master tempo in VirtualDJ v7, so if you are running an older version such as v6, the advanced quality will not be as good.
