If the controller is not detected, the drivers are not installed properly.
This can be tricky as windows over rides the install with messages to install or automatically installs audio drivers.

Make sure you do the install exactly following the prompts, ignoring the windows warnings and plugging in when prompted to the same usb each time.

When I look at device manager I see under "Sound, video, and game controllers"

"Hercules DJ Control Steel Bulk"
"Hercules DJ Control Steel MIDI"

Is there anything besides this that should be present?

The code in the trial and pro version picks up the console automatically.
If you do not install the proper drivers for the device, or they are installed incorrectly generating these errors, this will happen with the le version.

Please repeat the process.

I'm having this exact problem. I have followed the installation instructions to a T every time I've tried to install the drivers to no avail. The controller works perfectly on other computers.

With controller unplugged
1. Run latest driver installation package as administrator
2. Step through installation process as described in tech support documentation.
3. Plug n controller when prompted and click next, ignoring windows driver installation notifications.
4. Hercules icon appears in system tray with red "X". No controller detected.
5. Open device manager, Bulk Drivers and Steel drivers appear with yellow "!" and display Code 10 when properties are viewed

Are there any further steps to be taken to resolve this? I have also tried restarting the USB controllers from the device manager several times. Swapped between three known-good USB cables and attempted on all ports (front and back panel). Other USB accessories function as expected.

You really shouldn't have dug up a three year old thread, and stuck your message at the end of it.

If you're having issues with a Hercules controller, then your first port of call should be Hercules support. Your issue is not with Virtual DJ.
