Topic: Confessions of a crack head

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I confess, I used a cracked version of VDJ 5 for about 6 months before I actually bought it. It's not all bad though, I did buy a RMX, but the versions of VDJ that came with it wasn't enough for my purposes. What does this say about me and many others like me? What I think it says is that we really don't mind paying for something as long as we can give it a good test before we spend our hard earned money. Even though others around me are following the herd by using s#r#to, many of those guys are amazed at what I can do with VDJ. So I finally went to rehab (the bank) and purchased the upgrade to VDJ6. Am I happy that I did it? Yes and maybe yes. I say yes because VDJ6 has a lots things in it that bring it to another level, such as Netsearch, which I think is very cool. That alone makes it worth paying for the legit version. Maybe yes because there are some things that need to be tightened up such as the beat locking (mine doesn't hold the lock the way it did in VDJ5), and also being able to record a video mix without having to search the world for the codecs. So guys at Atomix take note, even though we can find working cracked versions of your software out there on the Net, us pros (Yes I am a pro) will invest in our craft and your product if you continue to create a product that will help us do our job better than the other guy, and one that works without grief. Also, it might help if you gave us a little more time on the demo so that the guys that will really use it, will have enough time to learn the ins and outs of the software, and be able to take the time and use it on a few actual gigs. As for all the other crack heads out there, if you are for real about your career as a DJ, BUY THE SOFTWARE!!!!. I'm not superstitious, but If there is such a thing a Karma, it's bad Karma to make money off of something that you have no intentions of paying for. What kind of pro are you? CDJ's can cost a grand, and so can mixers, I don't even want to get into what a sound system and lights can cost. So, spend the couple few hundred that makes everything work. You'll feel better about what you're doing and you'll really be part the VDJ community. This is not an ad for VDJ, it's just my confession.

I feel better now!

Welcome and glad to have you as part of the VirtualDJ Community ....

Most people of our community started to know VDJ by using a crack version and now they are happy to use the professional one.

Thanks

He's evil....Wang him!

j/k. Welcome to the side of good....cause evil sucks.

I too was introduced to VDJ by a fellow DJ who was a "Crack-head" But I've been clean & sober for over a year now. Was worth every penny!

Come my people, confess your sins. You'll feel much better!

Congrats on your gig. Upgrade to VDJ6, that Netsearch feature is great for request at the gig when you don't have the song.

Welcome aboard! It's good to see reformed "crack-heads" well...reformed!

Keep Spinnin'!!

Welcome ... i hope you enjoy the soft and the forum... !

;-)

hahaha i thought this was going to be a weird thread about drug use.

But yeah, you have no idea how many people have the cracked version. you should see on craigslist.com there are people who sell the cracked version for $20.00 just like real crack!

The people buying a cracked copy are just as stupid as the ones selling. I would never ever go out on a gig whit a cracked copy! I haven't decided yet if i should go pro. The le version works just fine for me at the moment.

There were a bunch of DJs form the local Hip Hop radio station spinning at one of the clubs in my area, and they were using a cracked version of VDJ. Crashed on them mid-set with a packed club! Karma, gotta love it!

Since we are all confessing our sins...

I didn't use a "cracked" copy per-se, bt I have a friend who wanted to lure me away from another DJ program to VDJ and allowed me to use one of his licenses and laptop to test it out at home. 2 Days later I bought my own license and haven't looked back! I have been guilty of using cracked versions of software, but I have never gigged out on them and If I liked the software I bought it. Now, this was "back in the day" when I didn't know any better, so I've wised up and won't use another cracked ANYTHING. Waaay too much risk of my laptop getting a virus, it's just not worth the risk.

Whew! I feel better

its the same with downloading music.

i am a hiphop cd collector (believe me, i have every cd from about every rapper- mainstream or underground) but I download albums to check it out and to put it in my library since ripping takes time.

but believe me, I have purchased the albums. and i am now going back to rip the cd and removing the downloaded versions to get a better quality now.

still, as far as virtual dj or any other music program, I will try it via demo or cracked to check it out but I will end up buying it.

I am waiting till the soundcard for virtual dj to work with vista 64 ( no use of buying the full program and then buying another separate soundcard ) before i buy it.

but, seems like i may just purchase the software alone and use the maya 44 usb.

I don't get or understand topics like this NO ITS NOT COOL TO USE A CRACK COPY OF THE SOFTWARE.
This topic makes it sound cool to do so and its not. Let me ask a question why did you not just download
and use THE FREE DEMO version? What was it about the crack version that you liked over the FREE DEMO?
If you can answer this for us maybe we can make the FREE DEMO version better ! and stop
all this crack head shit.

Even though I was making light of it, I started this thread to bring up a common and serious occurrence. If you did read what I had written at the beginning of this thread, you would see that I did offer some suggestions to Atomix to make the software better and to help stop people from using cracked versions. In my experience there are three kinds of people that use cracked versions of software. The first is the guy (or girl) that will never ever buy or use the software, they just want to have their hard drives filled will stuff they will never use, but they'll think it's cool to tell their friends they have everything. The second is the guy that's going to steal it, use it, and never care that it cost many dollars to design it, and bring the software to the market. Third is the person like me. I was looking for the best software for my needs and I wanted to have the time to thoroughly go through the program, use the different skins, plugins, and effects. For me, 20 days was not enough, and with the demo I couldn't test out the plugins because I didn't have the level of registration to get them. For people like me, using a cracked version is similar to taking money from the bank with the intention of giving it back later...it's NOT COOL! My thought was that the best way to help the company develop the software, and get people to buy it was to write to them in this forum. If they know why people are doing what they are doing, they can figure out ways to overcome it. Finally, my intent was to get others to explain in a public forum the concerns or reasons for using cracked software. A person would really have to be a crack head to not know that cracked software is wrong and illegal.

In my case, I bought the Hercules MK2 console back in 2005. This was the first I had EVER heard of VDJ. That actually started my DJ'ing career (somewhat...lol). The more I would read up on VDJ, the more I figured out that I couldn't take advantage of the full set of options using the LE version. I actually stumbled across a cracked version in a google search and d/l'ed it. From there, went and bought some cheap tables and started learning. I am a teacher by day, so sometimes I would provide the music for events, dances, etc. at the school. Then my boy asked me to DJ his wedding reception, which happened to be at a club.

Get to the booth and there's a full Serato setup, complete with a TTM57SL and 2 Technics. Well, I ended up having to undo part of their setup (much to their chagrin) to hook up my Hercules. Got everything setup and got the party started. 30 minutes in, the program freezes with a song playing. I had to dash to find the best man to do the toast RIGHT when the song ended so I had time to restart the program. Got through it without anyone noticing. Bought the program a couple of weeks later.

As far as making the free demo better, I dunno what to tell ya. One thing I will say though, is the TC limitation on the demo is one reason I looked more toward the cracked version. I think a 5 minute limit is a little stringent. Not too much you can test in that time frame.

I used a cracked version for upwards of a year. Somewhere around 3.x I think. The funny thing is that the price doubled before I made the decision to buy it! Oh well, no one to blame but myself... And not only did I think the program was worth the money, I've converted at least one other crack-head to a legit pro edition user and I'm working on three others.
