Topic: VirtualDJ on Windows 7 (official Beta)

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi all,

Im testing out the latest build of Windows 7 (Build 7000) with a view to set the PC up for gigging.

ive droped in a spare Harddrive to use for the new OS, so if things go pear shaped, the original boot drive is still there...

I did a full install on a freshly formatted harddive, windows takes up just under 7gb of space.
Windows 7 didnt recognaise my mobo drivers automatically (Shuttle sn25p), but a quick install of the normal Vista Drivers did the trick.

with the graphics card drivers installed and the sound drivers installed, it was time for VirualDJ

Installation worked without too much bother from UAC (User access control is a bit different on win7)

upon running VDJ, it asks for your serial (as normal), once entered, then i got a blue screen error.
From the event viewer i found 'The bugcheck was: 0x0000001a (0x00001236, 0x85237cc0, 0x85237d5c, 0x00000000'
a google search for this error '0x0000001a' suggests its a memory management issue...

however dxdiag reports the system is running DirectX 11 (!!!?!)
i ran an install of DirectX9 (and this helped)

is there some part of DirectX that VDJ needs (from vers. 9)

i'll investigate the memory manager issue seperately.
also, later this week, i'll try another fresh install, then run VDJ before DirectX 9 to see if i can pin the BSOD on my hardware...

There is already a thread about Windows 7 in the PC support forum, but basically:

* You would have to be an idiot to use Windows 7 for live gigs now
* VDJ does work (unofficially) on Windows 7
* You may run into all sorts of issues, which you will not get a great deal of support for

DX11 is a new feature of Windows 7, and will be better with DX9 hardware than Vista's DX10 was. Apparently.

Scott

Yes VirtualDJ does indeed work on Windows 7, but it needed DirectX9 installing.

I wasnt really looking for support for Win7 here, i really just wanted to post my findings, in the hope that is might help others in the future.

People are quite welcome to ask me for their help on Win7, and if i can help them, they'll get a reply. But this forum is more about VirtualDJ then Win7.
The purpose of my Topic is see how VirtualDJ runs on the upcoming Operating System, and what i need to do to get it all running.

UPDATE II :

Ive got an issue with NDIS causing Win7 to BSOD during startup.

this is a core part of Windows that deals with networking, and there is a conflict with the Ethernet port drivers.
Im using the Vista drivers, as recomended by Shuttle (The mobo manufacturer) i'll try the newer one from nVidia later to see if its fixable.

I have Windows 7 on one of my mac laptops it work perfectly in-till i hook it up to a flat screen and when i go to preferences and switch the video from window to display of my flat screen my computer blacks out and so does the flat screen display. I can still hear music playing and can scratch with the turn tables. but can not see anything. I just want to know if this has happen to anyone else.
