that's all i need now.
19" 1 unit rackmount to controll my sampler
i figure 12 push knobs with Repeat button under each one
push to enable/disable, and turn to raise/lower sample volume.
press "Repeat" button to switch from jingle to loop.
each push button and Repeat button light up when active

I built something similar myself, although not quite as fancy as you described....

What you're talking about is pretty much possible with a midi controller, assuming you can find one with enough knobs/buttons to do what you want! The only problem is getting any lights on a midi controller to come on - currently you can't map MIDI outputs in VDJ, which is something I hope they can sort out one of these days....

What you want is not hard to build at all. But i still think that only the material would cost something like $100-$200 if you want a 19" box, nice high quality buttons, controller PCB etc.
The easiest solution is to go for the Korg nanoKontrol unit. http://www.korgnano.com
