Killabee44, look at the following Ableton Live 4 screen shot (it's the Arrangement View):
http://www.ableton.com/pages/products/live/live4tour/featurelist/Arranger-full.gif
Do you see any record buttons for the tracks? Since DJ Walkers stated in this thread that he uses Ableton Live, “i have ableton live and i like using it i made my first mashup/bootleg using this software” (page 4), maybe he can provide you with additional information about the software. Also, once you familiarize yourself with it, I will give you further details about recording your live VDJ mix. I will probably download the demo myself because it looks like you can do a lot of creative things with this software.

Alright! A personal review of Abelton Live! That's what I want to hear!

GnoedeL, from reading a previous post by you in this thread, you seem very interested in Ableton Live 4. May I suggest that you consider downloading the demo and manual like I did from here:

There are movies that you can also download:

I've already done those things a while ago and found this software to be very promising.
But as I have limited experience with multitrack software I don't consider myself capable in giving a good review. That's why I'm so interested in your opinions!

After “attempting” to review 4 different multi-track recording products, this is what occurred:
I could not get these two free multi-track recorders to work:
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/ProTools/
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/QuartzStudio_Free/
I couldn’t configure the SONAR 4 demo to work with my soundcards. Consequently, I was unable to record a live mix into two tracks simultaneously. This does not mean that the SONAR 4 software doesn’t work as a multi-track recorder (look at the inability to split two signals with the VDJ demo). Many features were disabled with the demo, which could have prevented me from recording into two tracks simultaneously.
I was able to record a live mix into two tracks simultaneously with the Ableton Live 4 demo. I was also able to simultaneously record one track in the left channel only and the other track in the right channel only. However, I could not figure out the audio track synchronization procedure called "time-warping". Furthermore, I don’t see how this procedure would work on correcting
beatmixing mistakes recorded into two tracks simultaneously because you can only time-warp one track at a time (if I’m not mistaken). In my opinion, Ableton Live 4 is excellent software for making music, but is not worth paying its expensive price just so you can use it as a multi-track recorder.

I evaluated the following freeware and shareware from this site:
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/MULTITRACK_RECORDING/
1. Acoustica Mixcraft Multitrack Studio 1.1 build 18
2. CinematicMP3
3. DDClip SE 3.51
4. KRISTAL Audio Engine 1.0.1
5. Music Studio Producer 1.20b4
6. n-Track Studio v4.0.4
7. Pro Tools FREE
8. Quartz Studio Free
9. T-star 4.3
10.TwoTrak
I found only one that allowed me to simultaneously record into the left channel of one track and the right channel of another track—n-Track Studio v4.0.4. The two major drawbacks of this "shareware" are that a screen periodically appears reminding you to buy the product and it adds noise every 30 seconds when mixing down tracks. The screen appearing is no problem because you can easily click on the “remind me later” option and it will disappear. However, if you want to mixdown your tracks, the easiest way to do this is to playback your entire mix through your mixer and record into another track or software. I would recommend buying multi-track software with the features that I’ve recommended throughout this thread. However, if you are on a “very tight” budget, consider trying n-Track Studio v4.0.4.

Not trying to be annoying bring back old post , but I will just want to find out from the father of this topic (Double O) what is the best sound leveling soft ware to use after mixing your final cut with VDJ.

I’m not "the father of this topic"—you are because you started it. Regarding your question, I answered it in the 5th post on the second page.

About Abelton Live:
I've finally re-found the site that made me interested in Abelton Live.
It shows the strenght of the 'warping' feature. What do you think about that?
http://www.nu-gems.co.uk/Ableton/How_To_Warp_a_Track.html
Imagine old messy disco, rock, pop tracks that you can warp into steady beats and combine with whatever you like.
Opinions?

I record my mix on the fly and then use Acoustica iMix to edit it. this enables volume levels, and pan. if u want different tracks to come out of each side of the stereo i simply lay 2 tracks over one another and pan each one to a different side.
Also acoustica enables markers to be placed over the waveform, which can be used to split the track into smaller tracks.
If i mess up a mix, i simply carry on to the end of the set, then edit it. I find the bit where i messed up and then import the original track (if i used an effect incorrectly or by accident, for example), or if it was a mix between 2 tracks i simply remix just the 2 tracks and then import that into the program and remove the corresponding part of the original waveform, replacing it with the improved mix.
Acoustica iMix is free for evaluation purposes, but as far as i can tell no major features have been removed (correct me if i'm wrong). check out http://www.acoustica.com/download.htm and its the MP3 Audio Mixer program.
Highly recomended for basic mastering!

Nebula: “I record my mix on the fly and then use Acoustica iMix to edit it.”
Question: How do you edit two songs that have been recorded together? Are you stating that you record them into separate tracks?
Nebula: “if u want different tracks to come out of each side of the stereo i simply lay 2 tracks over one another and pan each one to a different side.”
Comment: Most DJ mixers don’t have a pan feature. The only way to separate the output signals of two songs playing simultaneously with a standard DJ mixer is to reconfigure the line-in cables.

i think he would have to recreate the mix of 2 songs and then cut and paste the fixed wav section back in. i think what is even easier is using mixmeister, it can make super tight beatmatching on the fly, so if one song is 128bpm the next song is 135bpm it will only beat match for the selected bars(mix) making the sound and pitch perfect for the songs. but the real reason i bring this up is i can make a mix without having to sit through the whole set, burn it and listen to it later, if i don't like something, change a song or a transition i can simply cut the track out and paste in a new one, without and re-recording/edits or having to do a new set.

sorry i think i missed the point ;/ you meant after recording with VDJ i think, i feel that if u want a supertight mix then you have to use something to program it, VDJ doesn't do that .... what is auto mix? does that use cue points?

mixmeister is like a multi track mixer that is what i use for creating layout mixes (so i call them) its a cool program because if i make a mix and want to change the song order you can, it doesn't record on the fly like normal, its like a layout and you pre-listen to the mix points and can tweak the fader and EQ's for transitions, when your done then burn a disc = perfect mix

Things change quickly....mixmeister is interesting im gonna check it out!

You mentioned it before in this thread (read my response—the 7th post):
http://www.virtualdj.com/forum/display.html?topic=10528&page=1
I didn’t download it because I had decided to continue using my multi-track recording software—Vegas Audio. However, I’m starting to realize that my software is too dated (it’s 5 years old). I also have some inexpensive recording software by Magix. Since I need to update my multi-track recording software, I will download the demo and give it a try. The beat matching and key detection features are what I really like.

“I record my mix on the fly and then use Acoustica iMix to edit it.”
What i mean was that i record one file using vdj, then import this mix into acoustica for editing.
“if u want different tracks to come out of each side of the stereo i simply lay 2 tracks over one another and pan each one to a different side.”
Here i meant using acoustica, to place 2 tracks together, but removing the volume on one of the tracks, keepin the other intact, then simply removing the 2nd tracks volume and bringing the 1st tracks volume back in.
“If i mess up a mix, i simply carry on to the end of the set, then edit it. I find the bit where i messed up and then import the original track (if i used an effect incorrectly or by accident, for example), or if it was a mix between 2 tracks i simply remix just the 2 tracks and then import that into the program and remove the corresponding part of the original waveform, replacing it with the improved mix.”
here i meant i remix what i intended on doing, using only the original tracks involved in the original mix (so as im not mixing for a long time and to save file space), then import this into acoustica and copy and paste the waveform into the original mix i did (the big one).
“Acoustica iMix is free for evaluation purposes,”
as for this, the file has been renamed "MP3 Audio Mixer". my version is called iMix for some reason.
"MP3 Audio Mixer" is exactly the same. Find it under the downloads page under "Audio and Music Utilities".
Hope that clears up any confusion!

Mixing music isn't such a problem, the only problem i've got is that if i want to burn my mixings on cd it stutters...how can i help that...is it because i'm using the trial version or is it because my sound card(standard on windows xp)isn(t strong enough
If so I gladly would do some investments, if not is there anybody who can help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
