It looks like the one for 79.95 is the "MAGIX music studio 2005 deLuxe". Their "music maker" line does not appear to do as much and retails for $59.99, so I know you meant for me go get the Music Studio Deluxe software. I will definitely look into that one.

Double O, I really like your idea about multi-tracking your mixes. It just seems like it would take so long to do a mix since you would have to edit out all your track cueing and do your mixdown. I like it though I don't think I have the patience for it. Then again, it would probably be quicker than trying to do an 80 minute mix over and over until perfection.

anewsome, I think you will have a different opinion when I explain how “to use two tracks simultaneously to record a live mix using both VDJ desks, [and]…how to correct your mistakes.”

You're right Killabee44; I was referring to the "MAGIX music studio 2005 deLuxe". It seems like a very good bargain at $79.99. Since it’s so cheap, I might buy it out of curiosity. Furthermore, my Vegas Audio software is 5 years old. If I buy it, I'll let you know.

Double O,

I have done some research and have found many complaints about Magix music studio. Peeps are saying that there are installation problems with the software, as well as many other issues. Im leaning to staying with Acid Music Studio 5 and Sound Forge like Andre Landry suggested.

Nobody uses 'Abelton Live'?
I really consider buying this software. The perfect way for 'live' mixing ... but is it really like that?
Can someone give his personal opinion about this?

Thanks

anewsome: “It just seems like it would take so long to do a mix since you would have to edit out all your track cueing and do your mixdown. I like it though I don't think I have the patience for it.”

You (and anybody else who has the above opinion) should read the very brief explanation for the External Method again that I posted on the first page. I specifically state in that explanation:

”The External Method gives you the same two options as the Internal Method. However, the major difference is that VDJ plays through your mixer and into the multi-track recorder. Consequently, this method allows you to fade with your mixer.” Therefore, there wouldn’t be any “track cueing” to edit. This is why I also stated in that explanation, “I think [the External Method] is the easiest and best method for you to use with multi-track recording software.” I hope this brief response helps you to better understand the concept.

Trust me anewsome, you will appreciate the multi-track mixing method once you try it. I will soon post how “to use two tracks simultaneously to record a live mix using both VDJ desks, [and]…how to correct your mistakes.” The reason why I haven’t done it yet is because the track-by-track method needs to be fully understood first. After you’ve recorded your live mix into two tracks, you have to use the track-by-track method to redo any mistakes. You could also add additional effects, songs, scratches, etc…that were not in your original "live" mix.

Killabee44: “I have done some research and have found many complaints about Magix music studio…. Im leaning to staying with Acid Music Studio 5 and Sound Forge like Andre Landry suggested.”

Thanks for the info; however, my curiosity compelled me to investigate this software more. I also wanted to find the most affordable multi-track recording software available because not everyone is willing to spend a lot of money buying something for experimental use. Consequently, I found two products by MAGIX that cost me $9.99 each—definitely affordable software. One product is a multi-track recorder that has essential features included. The other software has two players (desks) that allow you to play music and record directly into a multi-track recorder that’s included—I would like to see VDJ develop similar software. I will not have time to experiment with either product until this weekend. I’ll post my opinion when I’ve concluded my experiment.

Regarding Acid Music Studio 5 and Sound Forge, you shouldn’t need Sound Forge (which I also have) if Acid works as a “true” multi-track recorder. My only concern is that Acid will not allow you to record directly into any track or tracks that you select, thereby complicating a simple process. Remember what I stated to you in my second post on page 3 about recording with Acid, “I looked at the controls for each track, and I didn’t see the ‘Arm for Record Button’ that my Vegas Audio software has. This button allows you to select which track you want to record in.”
Consequently, you should ask Andre to do a simple two-song mix using the track-by-track method to see if Acid will work.

Once I’m done experimenting with the above MAGIX products, I will send them to you free of charge if you purchase the Professional Edition of VDJ. You can’t loose—you would be buying the best software for the money on the planet and getting additional software free. I can understand why you a very cautious about purchasing items over the Internet. However, I’m sure somebody on the VDJ staff can assist you in finding a safer method if you want to buy the software. Furthermore, look at all the people here that have already purchased VDJ over the Internet (including me).

Double 0 ....i think your taking this too personally
Dont know what you got with acid 5.0
Here the rundown
Load track one any song
load track two and erase the part you dont want(little eraser)and voila simple mix
the tracks will play together when and where you want
I use sound forge for final editing both of the programs together are amazing
Sound forge is good for final editing normalizing difficult tracks(very low or very high peaks)
also excellent for removing pops or cliks from effects and a lot more
There are both from sony sooooo that is a big plus
Once again for remixind editing or djiing you need
Vdj,Acid 5.0,Sound Forge....thats it thats all
and if you want to add Cubase Sx or SL they also work fine with the above(to add bass,drums,synth....)
Regards
Andre

Andre, I have nothing against Acid 5. You do have to admit that it is primarily designed to play loops for making music. Killabee44 is the only person in this entire thread who is so interested in the multi-track mixing concept, that he actually bought professional software to try something that’s new for him. Consequently, I have taken this "personal" because I don’t want to see Killabee44 disappointed if he can’t record his live VDJ mix with Acid 5. As I've stated before after examining a screen shot of Acid 5, “I looked at the controls for each track, and I didn’t see the ‘Arm for Record Button’ that my Vegas Audio software has. This button allows you to select which track you want to record in.” I have to assume that a live mix can’t be recorded into two tracks simultaneously with Acid 5, but I could be wrong....

Since Killabee44 and you have Acid 5 and Sound Forge, I will allow you to further instruct him on recording a live VDJ mix with Acid 5 and editing it with Sound Forge. From reading your above post, you seem to be very knowledgeable with using both products. Consequently, you can explain to Killabee44 “exactly” what he needs to do; I can only give him a “general” explanation. Therefore, I will conclude my involvement in this topic. However, I will still experiment with the very inexpensive MAGIX products that I mentioned in my last post to Killabee44. I’ll also post my opinion of these products when I’ve concluded my experiment.

Andre,

I would appreciate any input you can give. In the meantime I will experiment with acid5 and soundforge.

Since you are experimenting with Acid 5, see if you can record from your mixer into two tracks simultaneously. If you can, let me know.

Well Double 0,

A couple of issues with Acid5. First of all it won't detect my sound card properly. Just plain weird since I have a Terratec Phase 26 in the pc that I use for recording. Soundforge detects it ok so I dont know what the issue is. I can hear both of my players from VDJ, playing on different channels each (the sound coming from my terratec sound card).

Another is that I cant find a way to record two tracks simultaneously. That is a problem. If anyone is able to do this with acid5 please enlighten me. I will keep looking into the sound card issue.

You rang!
Ok simle way to mix with acid 5.0
Open explorer tab
Select song and drag to track 1(the beatmapper will appear now )inspect your mesures if they are not perfectly on this will not work .......a bit like cbgs in VDJ
Select another song and repeat the same process as many times as you like
Thats it ....use the pencil to draw the part of the song you want in each track
use the eraser to remove unwanted parts.
One more thing if you want to create the perfect cd then pre determine the track time or even load a huge file and mute it you can make it as long as you want
I never tested the limit in length...if you do let me know
Hope this helps
Andre

Andre, he wants to know how to record into two Acid 5 tracks simultaneously while using both VDJ desks to mix live with. Do you know how to do this? If you do, can you use your expertise to tell him exactly what to do.

For those inquiring minds that want to know about my experiment with $9.99 multi-track recording software, it went better than I expected. In about 20 minutes, I installed the software, watched a tutorial (it came with the software) that was almost 7 minutes long, and made a two track mix. Here are “some” of the features it has:

Mute - This will mute the selected track.

Solo - Only this track is played. When holding the Control key multiple tracks can be switched to solo.

Lock - If the Lock button is activated, the position of the objects in a track cannot be changed.

Volume - Activates the volume automation curve for a track.

Panorama (Pan) - Activates the panorama automation curve for a track.

Record - Enables a track to record.

Snapshot - The 4 lower left buttons that allow you to quickly switch between a full size display, a 10 seconds zoom range, and a sample exact zoom level for perfect editing.

LED level meters - Each track in has its own exact LED level meter. The level meters work both while recording and playback and store the maximum level (peak hold function).

Some other features include a realtime multi-track mixer, pitch-shifting, time-stretching,
re-sampling, enhancer, compressor, normalizer, crossfade edit, reverse and loop functions, etc....

Not bad for $9.99 multi-track recording software. Furthermore, there are other features that I didn’t mention. The two major drawbacks of this software are that it includes a demo MP3 encoder that allows you to use it only 20 times, and you can only record into one track at a time—you get 24 tracks. Overall, it performed well with track-by-track mixing. Consequently, I’m going to experiment with it more to see if I can get it to record into two tracks simultaneously.

b.t.w. The name of this software is "Audio Studio SE (Special Edition)" by MAGIX
