Topic: Disable waveform change with gain - Page: 2
I changed my VU meter mapping on the FLX10 to this and it looks a lot better for those not wanting the digital peak display

"VU_METER" get_level & param_pow 0.4

Hello, as a new user to virtual dj, coming from Serato, I have this problem too. It is a bit frustrating, only for the reason that I've gotten used to a fixed waveform from Serato. I understand that some people might like this, and maybe even be better than a fixed waveform (theoretically), but considering that many other known dj programs have a fixed waveform, and its something Djs look at very often, shouldn't be just an option to have it not affected by the gain??

Many threads on this already, but the summary is:

  • It's purposefully done to show you what you are doing with your adjustments
The reverse argument is being made for showing stem volume level changes (Serato shows volume changes on the waveform itself for them), so if you want this to disapear then that request should go away too (which I know people are actively asking for as it is useful)
  • If using autogain, adjustment of headroom (zeroDB setting) is the recommended approach (headroom adjustment doesn't affect the waveform). From that point, adjustment of gains on the mixer itself should rarely be needed (which would be from the 12 o'clock position), and if so, just slightly (so that the waveform isn't distorted to such a degree that it becomes useless)

Serato users aren't accustomed to this because Serato doesn't really have a low enough headroom setting from their default (92dB, quiestest = 89 dB = -3dB headroom), so you are forced to gainstage elsewhere, like on the physical mixer.

VirtualDJ, Rekordbox, DJay Pro all go down to -12 dB or more, so they can create the headroom needed without the mixer gain needing that initial adjustment.

With that said, they could add the option, but this is just to say that there are better ways to achieve the gain staging you want with the waveform still being useable.

In this respect VDJ is acting like a DAW, I find it quite a smart feature and it doesn't bother me using a DDJ-1000, however I don't see why there couldn't be an option to turn it off, there's options for practically everything else.

It's possible that there's a mismatch between the readout on the channel meters of the controller Vs those on the skin? I set headroom to -6, VDJ shows the channel meters as quite conservative while my 1000 shows the signal as hot (sometimes in the red).
