Not sure what you mean by cue points drift - the cue points are a marker location of a place in a song and they don't move.

If you are having trouble with needle sticker drift, try using Relative mode instead of Smart mode, to see if that resolves your issue.

An aside:

Tbh, I also thought I experienced sticker drift when using DVS, but aftet using/getting accustomed to the system I would say in the overwhelming majority of the time, I was being too heavy handed, and with practice, I eventually didn't experience the drift (which most likely means the needle jumped but I didn't notice it). Smart mode is a lot more sensitive than Relative as it seems like it attempts to apply some elements of Absolute mode into the mox of Relatove mode behavior (esp in terms of needle position on the record).

Only time I have problems occassionally now is when doing extended backspins with juggles.

I mean the when you scratching and jugggling the cue points move on the vinyl and its not in the same place that i wanted
And i have ONLY RELATIVE MODE

So, officially, Virtual DJ can't match the stability of Serato vinyl markers and will always float. That's why the vast majority of people don't want to use Virtual DJ? Why don't you just implement sticker lock or something with a different name, but the overall function is supposed to be such that there's no chance or option for this to happen. I encourage you to test sharp backspins on Serato, and this phenomenon doesn't occur there. Should I record a video and show how it happens strongly and quickly?

Sticker Lock has nothing to do with DVS drift.

  • Sticker lock is a feature that serato introduced to lock positioning of cue points to a particular physical position on the record on playback (the sticker position, as referenced from a clock position)

Take a look at this video to see what I'm talking about:

    https://youtu.be/XLeTbnoZQl4?feature=shared

  • DVS drift (which is what I'm sure you are getting at) can occur if you make platter movements starting from a certain point in playback of the track, as referenced by a physical point on the record, that ultimately ends at that same physical point on the record, but the song playback does not return to that same point as where the song started from in the software.

They aren't the same thing and sticker lock is not indicative of how well DVS processing works, it's just a helper feature that is an addition to/implemented on top of DVS processing.

VirtualDJ doesn't have Sticker Lock. AFAIK no other software has it as it is a trademarked feature of Serato. The feature itself probably isn't extremely difficult to implement as it is probably an extension of the LFSR time points mapping to special behavior that is already being done for things like dropping in the lead-in restarts the track.

For sharp pullbacks/backspins (which is normally done with Juggles), I agree, Smart mode is much less forgiving with any little jumps - you have to be more more gentle in the pullbacks, especially at the start, for it not to jump. However, when I switch to Relative mode, I don't experience that problem, and I would say that mode more closely matches Serato's relative mode.

Checkout the timecode section of the user manual and just double-check that you are using Relative mode in that case.

https://virtualdj.com/manuals/virtualdj/settings/audiosetup/timecode.html

Feel free to send the videos though - I can send videos of what I mean by what I'm saying above a bit later too (both scratching and simple juggles).

Keep in mind, you don't have to take my word for it - expert turntablists like Erick Jay and other DMC contestants/winners have done their sets on VirtualDJ successfully, so your issue is definitely not because VirtualDJ can't keep up.

i think this is relative mod

Yes.

Also, your timecode settings are different from default, and some of the choices made would make things even more sensitive

  • timecodeAntiSkip = 0 is applicable to smart mode (by default I think it's set to 3), and that makes that mode even more sensitive to skips.
  • timecodeSilence is very low (by default it's set to 0.1 but your setting is so small it might effectively be zero), which would make the system more sensitive to rumble noise corrupting the manipulation

It's probably recommended to return those to their defaults, and probably only reduce the timecodeSilence lower than the default if you find you slow scratches aren't accurate (I've only ever lowered it to 0.01 just to try it, the default works fine for me) or if using Phase in DVS mode (Phase does the rumble noise reduction to give a clean signal to the DVS engine).

okay i set the settings like you said now i will need a couple days for testing , thank you for answer !

I can confirm I sometimes have random "Cue Sticker Drift" using Traktor Timecodes mk2 (I always thought VDJ doesnt like Traktor vinyl)

i use new serato vinyls VIRTUAL DJ DRIFTING CUE POINTS ARE CRAZY is a BIG PROBLEM
i see why turntablist prefer serato..............
also pitch changing by it self
OFCOURSE SETTTINGS AUTOMATIC ARE ALL OFF

Once again, cue points don't drift, record sticker position does.

Once settings are properly set, I've used the DVS with Serato, Traktor and VirtualDJ timecode and have had no noticeable sticker position drift for scratches and juggles.

The pitch doesn't automatically change by itself either, unless you have one of the auto syncs or smart features on (smart play or smart BPM).

Pretty sure you know what he means, I understood what he meant from his first post.

In my personal experience VDJ had always been behind when it comes to timecode and I've been using it since 4.2 and it's gotten better but they have never focused on making it as tight as the other apps. Again this is my personal experience...

And I'm sure he's talking about "wow/flutter", We both know how sensitive VDJ can be if the settings aren't right.

Your a good guy but your coming across as a little "bullish" in this thread lol! I dont think english is his native language.

Can you post your settings, Id like to compare mine with yours.

@thesoundinsurgent I'm just answering honestly/giving suggestions to what was stated and trying to get ppl to use the correct terminology because it helps to know what is being referred to.

Take a look at what OP posted and take a look at my response, are you really saying my post is bullish and not having any comment on what OP is saying ("thats why turntablists choose Serato")? That statement is nuanced/not really useful to the discussion, and there are various threads already discussing why. For e.g., the most legendary scratcher (Q-Bert) and DMC winner (Craze) were Traktor users. They both use other software now for various reasons (including being brand ambassadors) - that doesn't mean Traktor doesn't have a good DVS system. Depending on the technology too, even Serato has some drift (that claim came from a DMC champ, not myself).

I'm not saying VirtualDJ is perfect - there are definitely shortcomings (and I've made forum posts on that too), but the majority can be overcome based on settings/practice. I'm actually trying to help out here, not talk them down - that's why my responses have suggestions in them.

As for my settings, I honestly left most as default - the only thing I've changed is rampScratchTime = 0 (I personally see no need for a scratch delay but the devs may see this differently).
If I'm doing more busy juggles with fills, then I may switch it to relative mode, but that's pretty much it.

yes i from poland sorry for my language i dont use translator , yes i mean driting when i set cue point .....
i spin back vinyl and i got all best turntable you can get i got 15 of them i service electronic dj stuff
wow fluter has nothing to do
ALL PROBLEMS ALL FROM VIRTUAL DJ no mixer no needle no quality of vinyl

in serato and traktor before nothing automatic!

i asked virtual dj for support many times no answer after paying money for license i see no help from them
good thanks this forum exist ....

help me how to make when i play music and scratching
HOW TO BLOCK LOCK PITCH I USE ONLY PITCH ON TURNTABLE I
i can record how it look like.....

I've used DVS with Traktor, Serato, Rekordbox and VirtualDJ before - they all have their "ways", but they all can function well once you understand their ways.

A video can probably help too - it might give us/the devs an idea of the problems.

I would also say, as a rough rule of thumb switch off everything that could mess with the manipulation in settings:

  • Search for "smart" and probably turn every setting that comes up for that off
  • Search for "auto" and probably turn off everything you see that comes up
  • Turn off quantizeScratch
  • Turn rampScratchTime to zero
  • Turn every timecode setting back to the default, and maybe switch the timecodeMode to Relative and see if that helps
  • turn timecodePitchSliderIgnoreBend off

Also, if you are coming from Serato, follow this:

So I took a slightly deeper look at the different timecodes wrt really slow motion (VirtualDJ, Serato, Traktor), and I found that the response to Traktor's timecode has some drifting involved (VirtualDJ and Serato response were pretty good).

Here's a video to show that - the drift is a bit concerning for movements.
I'm on v2025-m b 8658 and Sequioa 15.5 (M4 Pro MacBook Pro, 48 GB RAM):

no auto

Search for "smart" and probably turn every setting that comes up for that off
Search for "auto" and probably turn off everything you see that comes up
Turn off quantizeScratch
Turn rampScratchTime to zero
Turn every timecode setting back to the default, and maybe switch the timecodeMode to Relative and see if that helps
turn timecodePitchSliderIgnoreBend off

everything WAS SET LIKE YOU SAID

There is no need for all caps, just trying to help you.

At this point it would be good for you to post a video of your problem, tell us your platform specifics (OS + version, VirtualDJ version, timecode records being used), and provide your settings.xml file (through some cloud service).
