Does what it claims to and nothing more. Ive been spinning for 15 yrs on the side at clubs and parties. I used to lug vinyl. Then burned cd's for a while. To me, for my purposes and gig types, this hardware/software combo is the best invention since sliced bread.
Hardware: Seems to be well made with a number of the feature, such as the crossfader that seem to be the very same used in higher end models. It is incredibly light. The fact its propped up by small legs has already saved me twice with drunken spills in/around my booth. If you're a heavy turntablist obviously jog-wheels this small may not be for you.
The Software: I realize Serato is industry standard but the ONLY complaint I have thus far with Virtual DJ is that it's lacking an echo feature. Beyond that it was a breeze to set up and runs great on my macbook pro. Im strongly considering upgrading to unlock the full video features.
If your playing small gigs, house parties, weddings or even a beginner I highly recommend this unit.
It looks great, functions great. Within minutes I was able to make all the crazy sounds and effects Justice make in their live album, which pleases me greatly.
Two tips: update the firmware (you get it from the Pioneer site), and start with the application called "djay" - it's simple, but you'll probably end up being a better DJ if you start with a simple program than something more complex and frustrating. I like the Virtual DJ program that comes with the device, but it's interface is way too complex for beginners.
The Controller Board and software freeze during operation causing the operating computer to crash. Then entire systems has to be re-started. Would not recommend for someone to use as a DJ system for an important event. Cannot count on it working.
Pioneer does it again with this entry level controller. I got it as a back up/hold over till I can afford the more spendy pro-dj gear line. I've used it in the club a hand full of times along side the Pioneer 1000s, and it has functioned great.
It's a bit lighter weight than I'd prefer though build quality wise.... the sliders are not as smooth as I'm used to with Pioneer gear, the Jog wheel is not as precise, the knobs are not quite as solid.
But with that said, it IS well made, it DOES work very well and it IS very easy to use once set up.
I definitely would recommend this to a beginning dj or as a back up unit.
This is a great mobile dj set. Has what you need to start out as a DJ and mix songs. It is small, does not weigh a lot. Perfect for a person who wants to start DJ-ing and also a person who already does. It has the basic DJ mixing features. It is mobile and a good size. I have enjoyed learning on it so much, all ages will like this. Was sent quickly from Amazon. A perfect gift for a future DJ or in general.
Good for first timers or those just learning. I've died for 20 years and it was my neice first "taste". Good when you want to make sure they learn but are gonna stick with it. Very basic.
Very nice piece of gear for new to mid level DJ's. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the higher end models such as CDJ 800, 1000, or 2000. But it get's the job done with style. The illuminated platters are really cool and help novice DJs with beat pulse.
This console is amazing, its the perfect size with many different features and can keep you entertained for hours and when playing in a venue it can make even the amateur DJ look like a pro.
