Topic: Different input levels per deck....

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Here is a link to a video showing the same track in both players, getting different levels. I decided to check after I noticed that deck 2 was always in the red, as opposed to deck one. This is confirmed in hardware and software. Is there a setting that I am missing? video

switch off your auto gain function
as you can see in the right deck its on 2.2
and the left is 0

Not very clear in this skin, but it would indeed look like the right gain fader is actually too high.
If it was just this time, perhaps it was a song that you started playing for the first time before it was fully analyzed?

No, auto gain should NOT be switched off
And in fact auto-gain has nothing to do with this if it's the same track loaded on both decks.

PS: The only case auto-gain could result this bug is this:
1) You load a NEW, never played /scanned track on deck 2.
2) Before the track loads completely you start playing it (VirtualDJ still scans the track and calculates auto-gain value, BPM, e.t.c.)
3) You load the same track on deck 1 (or use clone deck action) after deck 2 has finished loading
On this case the track on deck 1 will play with the correct auto-gain value while the track on deck 2 will remain without any gain adjustment until the deck is restarted.

This case is very rare though and it's a known thing:
If you start playing a track BEFORE it has finished analyzing, VirtualDj won't apply auto-gain in order to avoid sudden drop or raise of the gain in the air.
The next time you load the track / start the deck, auto-gain will be applied as usual

Back to AMAHM issue:
What's your auto-gain setting ?
If auto-gain is enabled then this should not happen.

Also, keep in mind that MIDI knobs are much more sensitive that "normal" knobs.
If your gain knobs on your controller don't have a "click"/"park" position in the middle then it's possible that they send different values when you see them at 12 o clock position.
That's common with a lot controllers. You can't have 100% precise control on the 12 o clock position if they don't have a "click"/"park" position.
Therefore it's possible that if you moved your knobs just a little bit to have altered the gain on deck 2 to be on +2.2db even if the knob itself shows 12 o clock / no gain position
