Topic: VDJ 8.2 plays all distorted and fast on Dell i2 core Laptop running XP with SP3 and all updates

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Just installed VDJ 8.2 the updated version on my older back up computer.

Let me start by saying VDJ 7.4 pro works flawless on this computer.

It is a DELL I core 2. Running windows XP SP 3. ( Updated with all the current service packs and updates ) I shut off modems etc and the laptop is optimized for performance.

VDJ 8.2 opens and loads just fine, I can put a song on each deck.

HOWEVER when I hit play, the song plays all distorted??? And it looks like its playing too fast??

I will close VDJ 8.2 and open VDJ 7.4, and the same songs plays and sounds perfect????

I am using an internal sound card in VDJ 8.2 which reads:

IDT Audio (WMD) and 44,100 Hz 1024 samples

Any and all comments, tweaks and suggestions are appreciated.

I am hoping there is a simple solution.

Thanks. CM

Please provide more details about the track you're using.

What format is it in? What's the bit depth and sample rate?

Did you try playing tracks in other formats?

How would I change my bit rate setting in Windows XP? Can I do it in VDJ 8.2?

I am simply playing 320 k mp3 audio files. Some are downloaded from Amazon and most are from digital promo only.

Can I adjust my latency? or other tweaks in 8.2? Like I said same files same computer with VDJ 7.4 and everything plays perfect.

Let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks! C

In virtual dj or windows? Sorry for the silly questions.

I don't understand why 7.4 works great n 8.2 does not??

I would imagine that 8.2 is a lot more demanding of the computer than 7.4 was, as it is much more sophisticated. Would be a bit like trying to run windows 10 on your machine, it probably wouldn't handle it.

Before I installed 8.2 I made sure my computer met the requirements.

Does anyone have any other suggestions to get the music playing smoothly?

Thanks. C

i was just replying to you question of why 8 is different to 7.

Moving on though, i would try increasing the latency setting in the settings. Should be on automatic, if so, what number is after it? do you have ultralatency turned on?

If you have latency on automatic, try increasing the latency number by manually typing in a number rather than having it on auto. I think you have to go up in increments of 64

EDIT - looks like your audio driver should be setting the latency at 1024, so is that what it says in VDJ settings? try increasing it on your audio card utility (if thats where it is set)

Edit2 - in VDJ settings, what sample rate is set in there is it 44100 auto?

Are you playing out to speakers then or just on the laptop inbuilt speakers?

THANK YOU!!!!

All I did was change my bit rate to 48K and then unchecked ultra latency and it works perfect!!!

Why does 44 vs 48 matter? On my other laptops I am running 44 with ultra latency on and it sounds great!!!

Thanks again! Now I have a back up to my back up laptop! C
