Topic: Please help... Need New Laptop......

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

My 2010 Macbook Pro has finally had its last day.. Looks like the Logic board died and could not bring it back from the dead for a reasonable price.. So here is my Question.. Should I invest in a new MacBook or has Windows 10 become stable enough to run it on.. Also what Windows based computer would you suggest.. I do a lot of Video Dj along with regular ol MP3.. Also thinking about streaming my sets online... All suggestions would be great appreciated.. Thank you

If you can afford it, for a Windows based laptop ASUS ROG is a very good choice.
Almost like an Alienware at a fraction of the price.
And yes most of us use Windows 10 without any issues. (I don't think Windows 10 had any stability issues as an OS anyway)

For me my first choice would be a Mac............. But if you use a lot of fx's then I'd say go with a PC. The fx game on the PC side is a lot stronger then the Mac side.

I swap between a Mac & PC but have only played out live with my PC a handful of times.

I think it's gonna boil down to how you use VDJ.

I use Resolume and Syphon a lot so it's just easier for me to use a Mac.

Good luck in your search for a new machine.

Hi DjKB-GGR!

If this question is actual, here my recomendations, how to choice laptop

first You need choice MacOS or Windows based laptop.
In MacOs based laptop, no comment, you need only choice, whom model you want

But in Windows based laptop case is some thinks what need to know:
1) choice professional series laptops, why, because those laptops is more quality and produced from higher quality components
2) for pro level laptop, usually power system is different build and works more stable, controllers can not freeze on main power fluctuations!!!
3) choice ONLY INTEL chipset based laptop, don't choice AMD based laptop!!!
4) If you have limited buget, buy used pro level. Used pro level laptop works more longer time, like new cheap laptop (how I call cheap series laptops - plastic laptop) (recomended - DELL, HP, LENAVO)
5) optimal size 15" -17"
6) If is possible choice matte display, not glossary display
7) I recommend Windows 10
8) min RAM 4Gb optimum 8Gb
9) ideal solution Hybrid HDD (SSD and HDD combined in one hard) SSD side for software, HDD side for data, or some pro level laptops is instaled 2 HDD, in this case one SSD, second HDD, or if you don't need CD/DVD drive you can change this to extra HDD case. (music, settings etc., if you interesed, I can explane how that to move all User folder to another disk)
10) Windows based laptop, is easier repair and it's more cheaper
11) most pro level windows based laptops is more stronger construction
12) last comment about myth : Mac is better, those times, when for pro audio, need choice only Mac, is gone (all MAC is normal Intel based laptops, earlier times, Aplee build own pc). If you choice Pro level laptop it's same level, what is for MAC

P.S. I would not choose ASUS or MSI
these are not bad PC manufacturers, for home needs is very good models, but they are not designed for professional use, as I write, I recomended DELL, HP or LENAVO
